Dr. Thai Binh Tran was invited to speak at the 4th Annual Vietnam Aero Summit 2026 (VAS 2026), one of Vietnam’s leading aviation industry events, bringing together international experts, airline executives, policymakers, researchers, and aviation service providers from across the region.
Held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Aero Summit has established itself as a key platform for dialogue and collaboration within the aviation sector, successfully connecting stakeholders from airlines, airports, maintenance organizations, technology providers, training institutions, and regulatory bodies.
At the summit, Dr. Tran delivered a presentation entitled “Strategic Fit and Transformation in ASEAN Aviation: Lessons from Vietnam,” drawing upon her extensive research on airline strategy and the findings from her forthcoming Routledge book, Navigating Change: Strategic Fit and Transformation in ASEAN Aviation.
The presentation examined how airlines and aviation organizations across ASEAN are adapting to increasingly complex operating environments characterized by infrastructure constraints, regulatory evolution, technological transformation, competitive pressures, and regional integration initiatives. Using Vietnam as a focal case study, the discussion highlighted the importance of achieving strategic alignment between market conditions, organizational capabilities, and institutional environments in order to sustain long-term growth.
Dr. Tran emphasized that successful aviation transformation requires more than operational efficiency. Airlines must continuously reassess their strategic positioning and develop adaptive capabilities to respond effectively to dynamic industry conditions. The Vietnamese aviation market, one of the fastest-growing in Southeast Asia, provides valuable lessons for understanding how aviation stakeholders navigate uncertainty while pursuing sustainable development objectives.
The summit attracted representatives from leading global organizations and aviation industry stakeholders, creating opportunities for meaningful discussions on the future of aviation in Vietnam and the broader ASEAN region. On the second day of the summit, Dr. Tran had the honor of opening a conference session, sharing key conclusions from her ongoing research with an audience of international experts, industry leaders, and academics. The presentation generated active engagement and discussion regarding the strategic challenges and opportunities facing ASEAN aviation in the coming decade.
